What Do You Want Me to Do For You?

Here are the PowerPoint slides from this message

THE POINT:
The foundation of a Christ-centered relationship is to focus on giving more than receiving.

WORDS THAT BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
“Wow! That’s really cool and I’m genuinely excited for you.”
  • “What can I do to help you?”
  • “What can I do for you?”
  • “Can I help you with that?”
  • “Do you need any help?”
  • “How can I help?”
 Matthew 20:29-34 (NIV)
As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him.
Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
Jesus stopped and called them. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.
"Lord," they answered, "we want our sight."
Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

Mark 10:35-37 (NIV)
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask."
"What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.
They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory."

Mark 10:41-45 (NIV)
When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John.
Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
THIS IS THE HOLY SPIRIT IN YOU

John 14:15-16 (NKJV)
"If you love Me, keep My commandments.
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever–John 14:26 (NKJV)
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.John 15:26 (NKJV)
"But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

John 16:7 (NKJV)
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.Greek Strong's Number: 3875
Transliteration: paraklçtos
Phonetic Pronunciation: par-ak'-lay-tos
English Words used in KJV: comforter 4, advocate 1
... an intercessor, consoler, advocate, comforter.—Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew DictionaryCAUTIONS
  • It’s your responsibility to keep from being abused.
  • This works best in DELIBERATE and PURPOSEFUL relationships.
  • Avoid taking over, or “helping” in such a way that makes the other person feel helpless or incompetent.
  • The point of helping is to en-COURAGE and em-POWER people.
WHAT THEN SHALL WE DO?
  • Practice saying and meaning:
“Wow! That’s really cool and I’m genuinely excited for you.”
  • Practice saying and meaning:
“What can I do for you?”
“Can I help you with that?”
“Do you need any help?”
“How can I help?”
  • Receive prayer for the Holy Spirit to fill you with power to ADVOCATE, ENCOURAGE, and EMPOWER yourself and others.
