The Spirit of Peace, Wisdom, and Tongues of Fire
THE POINT: The nature of the Holy Spirit is peace and wisdom, but He also deliberately defies our sense of logic.
DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE HOLY GHOST
- The Spirit is harder to conceptualize than the Father or the Son.
- The Spirit is invisible and does everything in a supernatural way.
- While people often fear the Spirit will bring chaos and fear, His Nature is one of order, rest and peace.
- This all means we need to learn about Him MORE, not LESS.
Isaiah 11:1-3 (NIV)
A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him
-- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD--
Romans 8:6 (NIV)
The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;
Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Acts 2:2-7 (NIV)
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.
When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans?

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS BALANCED
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (NIV)
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
