Praying “In the Spirit” (PowerPoint Slides from this message)   THE POINT : To be a disciple of Jesus, we need to understand and be in touch with the Holy Spirit.   REVIEW We understand God as the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. We are created in His Image, soul, body, and spirit. The Holy Spirit is a Person, not a thing. It’s okay to address Him directly in prayer, just as you might pray “Heavenly Father” or “Lord Jesus”. Much teaching on the Holy Spirit tries to limit, classify, or categorize Him. As the Spirit of God, He is infinite and unlimited.  He can be in, over, upon, around, anybody or anything He wants to.  WE ARE A TRINITY IN GOD’S IMAGE Matthew 28:18-19 (NIV) Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…   1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NIV) May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.   Ephesians 6:18 (NIV) And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.   PRAYING “IN THE SPIRIT” Praying in tongues (a spiritual prayer language that God gives you) Praying in a condition where you’re so in tune with the Holy Spirit inside you that you’re functioning like one person Praying during an inspired vision or dream  Romans 8:26 (NIV) In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
