Our Church's policy toward the Gifts of the Holy Spirit is that
Even in the time when our Lord Jesus walked the earth in human form, the practice of Spiritual Gifts caused controversy. While we know that "God is not the author of confusion" we also know that it is His very nature to do things in ways that often startle and bewilder us.
When we look at the earthly ministry of Jesus, the apostles, and those disciples who came soon after them, operating in miracles and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit was an integral part of the Christian experience. Today, Spiritual Gifts are considered to be too "disorderly" and are actually forbidden in the congregational practice of many churches here in Northern Virginia.
As founding pastor of Westgate Chapel, I simply cannot reconcile excluding the gifts of tongues, prophecy, miracles, and healings with being a "Bible Believing Church". If we call ourselves disciples of Jesus Christ and want to be like Him, I simply can't see how we can avoid studying and practicing Spiritual Gifts.
We do not seek to be controversial or weird, we're just following Jesus command to make disciples. We provide an environment of safety and accountability to sound biblical doctrine as we learn and practice the gifts. This often happens in various small group settings.
